The Royal Marsden is a leading cancer centre located in Chelsea and Sutton. We are seeking an experienced scrub nurse or ODP to join our theatre team.

Main duties of the job:

  • Perform nursing care for patients, collaborating with shift coordinators.
  • Execute all tasks of a registered theatre nurse/ODP, including resuscitation, scrub, circulation, and compliance with National and Trust theatre policy.
  • Carry out care independently, supervise underqualified staff, and maintain a safe environment.
  • Ensure safe use of complex scrub equipment such as diathermy and laparoscopy.
  • Apply knowledge of safe decontamination processes, including sterilisation of instruments.
  • Support senior staff and multidisciplinary team in upholding clinical standards and staff development.
  • Provide evidence‑based, personalised care to patients and relatives, meeting local and national targets.

Detailed responsibilities:

  • Complete initial assessment of patient needs and document in care plan.
  • Understand physiological, psycho‑social, spiritual, and cultural needs of patients and families.
  • Identify nursing problems, plan and implement care, setting goals and assisting patients to achieve them.
  • Document and evaluate care, communicating progress with colleagues and notifying charge nurses of changes.
  • Teach patients in preparation for investigations, treatment, and home care.
  • Monitor treatment side‑effects and adopt problem‑solving approaches.

Person specification:

  • Experience in the relevant speciality.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to liaise with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Decision‑making, organisation, and workload prioritisation.
  • Commitment to customer care and professional development.
  • Motivation and initiative.
  • RMH Certificate in Intravenous Drug Administration, or commitment to obtain within three months.
  • Appropriate UK professional registration.

Other requirements:

  • Ability to work rostered shifts.
  • Flexibility to meet service needs.
