An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Nursing Information Officer (NIO) (Band 8a) to join the Nursing & AHP Informatics team at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. The Royal Marsden is looking for an experienced and forward‑thinking Nursing Information Officer to join our CNIO team and help shape the future of digital nursing in a world‑leading cancer centre. Working closely with the CNIO, DCNIO, clinical teams and RM Digital colleagues, you will join an ambitious, supportive team at the forefront of cancer care, research and innovation, with the opportunity to make a real impact on patient safety, staff experience and digital excellence. Main duties of the job:
- Provide specialist knowledge, skills and tools across a range of clinical procedures and practices to enable clinical information to be collected, managed, used and shared, supporting the development and implementation of clinical process redesign and new ways of working to achieve the Trust's objectives.
- Act as lead liaison between clinicians, RM Digital, IT systems administrators and the DHR Programme team.
- Participate in the selection of healthcare technology systems relevant to nursing or allied health professionals.
- Participate in Digital Clinical Safety activities, ensuring new technologies are adequately risk‑assessed, comply with NHS Digital Standards and are clinically safe to deploy.
- Review and approve clinical content for the development of new content to promote quality initiatives for both RM Digital and the DHR programme.
- Work collaboratively with partners, including Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Epic.

- Lead and drive digital innovation for nursing, ensuring digital literacy and adoption of technological solutions to support quality and efficiency of care.
- Act as an expert role model in the area of clinical practice promoting patient‑centred care.
- Maintain up to date professional registration and knowledge to ensure understanding of clinical requirements and to understand current processes and impact of healthcare technology in different clinical areas.
- Promote the use of healthcare technologies and a data‑driven culture in the clinical environment.
- Collaborate with the CNIO, DCNIO, IOs, CCIOs and other RMH clinical IT champions to design future clinical and research processes and workflows within the DHR.
Person specification:
Education/Qualifications:- Nursing professional qualification and current Registration
- Educated to Degree Level
- Evidence of ongoing professional development
- Qualified Clinical Safety Officer or willingness to undertake training
- Masters degree or evidence of post‑graduate study or equivalent experience and continued commitment to professional development relevant to post
- Teaching/learning qualification
- Extensive and up to date knowledge of nursing and other clinical, administrative and/or operational workflows and processes within a hospital environment
- Experience of clinical leadership during career
- Proven management of change with positive outcomes at clinical level
- Experience of managing clinical elements of IT/Information projects
- Experience of process mapping, analysis interpretation, evaluation and process re‑design
- Experience of designing and implementing clinical policy & competencies at organisational level
- Leadership qualities with the ability to lead, manage and motivate staff into achieving a common goal
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate fluently with staff at all levels in the organisation, including clinical staff, managerial staff and senior/board level executives, as well as with external suppliers
- Knowledge of Information Governance, SOPs and other governance, national and professional standards of practice or other regulations
- Exceptional organisational and strategic level logistics planning skills
