MRI/CT Radiographer

The Royal Marsden Hospital is inviting applications for a diagnostic MRI/CT radiographer at our Cavendish Square site in Central London. The successful candidate would have postgraduate experience in cross‑sectional imaging; training can be provided if required.

Main Duties

• The post holder will be expected to be flexible as the department operates 8am‑8pm Monday to Friday (and Saturday 9am‑5pm when operational).
• The post holder will work as a member of the multi‑disciplinary team in providing an efficient and effective diagnostic imaging service, liaising with clinicians, other departments, and staff.
• The post holder will rotate between MRI and CT (and perform occasional x‑ray where required).

Detailed Responsibilities

• Ensure protocols and standards are maintained and improved to produce best diagnostic information and patient care.
• Perform imaging examinations as an operator under the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017.
• Follow the Royal College of Radiologists guidelines, local rules, and departmental standard operating procedures.
• Comply with accurate patient identification procedures.
• Ensure referrals are justified correctly and booked in a timely manner.
• Provide advice where appropriate on the validity of requested examinations.
• Be aware of radiation safety when undertaking CT examinations and ensure the safety and protection of patients, staff, and carers are adhered to.
• Perform standard equipment QA, record results accurately and alert the Superintendent radiographer/medical physics as required.
• Assess specific communication needs of patients and obtain consent for intravenous contrast media.
• Anticipate and implement alternative methods to ensure patient safety if communication difficulties arise.
• Administer intravenous contrast via a pressure injector.

Person Specification – Education & Qualifications

• State registration.
• DCR/BSc in Radiography.
• Cannulation certificate or completed workbook.

Experience

• Experience of cross‑sectional imaging.
• Evidence of caring for patients in an oncology setting.
• Minimum of two years post‑graduate experience.

Skills, Abilities & Knowledge

• Ability to express themselves clearly in English.
• Ability to write clearly and concisely in English.
• Ability to use word processing software and IT systems (Radiology systems, Microsoft Word and Outlook).
• Evidence of working within a team.
• Ability to demonstrate self‑motivation.
