We are seeking a new Senior Research Business Intelligence Officer, who will be based in the award-winning Oak Cancer Centre in Sutton, Surrey, with an expectation of at least 60% onsite working and up to 40% home working. The Senior Research Business Intelligence Officer is a member of The Royal Marsden’s Clinical Research Directorate, sitting within the Joint Clinical Research & Development Core Services. The purpose of the role is to support the Business Intelligence function in Clinical Research Core Services, monitor all new implemented local and national clinical research performance and metrics, ensure high-quality data recorded in the governance administrative systems and provide various report activities.

The ideal candidate will be proactive, highly organised with excellent attention to detail, and proficient in communicating with a wide range of stakeholders across The Royal Marsden and the ICR.

Main duties of the job:

  • Alongside business intelligence activities, the role will interface with the governance and operations function, managing and assessing patient recruitment metrics, overseeing study progresses from the beginning to the end to maintain and keep abreast of governance changes.
  • The ideal candidate will have significant experience and expertise in both clinical research governance processes (both as a research site and research sponsor) and business intelligence activities including database management, process development and data analysis and reporting.
  • They will be highly organised with excellent attention to detail, and be able to communicate proficiently with a wide range of stakeholders.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities:

  • Under the guidance of the Clinical Research Business Intelligence Manager, be responsible for the development, delivery and ongoing refinement of a suite of business intelligence products, primarily within QlikSense tool homed within RM Insights.
  • Maintain the business intelligence products ensuring a consistent cadence of updates to ensure that the information remains live (i.e. regular data preparation).
  • Champion the use of the business intelligence products across The Royal Marsden and the ICR, promoting their use to unlock efficiencies and liaising with staff to understand needs to inform future developments.
  • Use clinical research governance knowledge to anticipate and understand the needs of the end users.
  • Work closely with the performance and information team and other key stakeholders to improve business intelligence products and to fill gaps in service provision.

Person specification:

Education/Qualifications:

  • Educated to degree level (e.g. BSc) in a relevant subject.
  • Commitment to continued professional development.
  • Professional qualification or postgraduate qualification in relevant area (e.g. project management).

Experience:

  • Significant experience of working in clinical research governance roles.
  • Significant experience of reporting different research data for a range of audiences.
  • Experience of working in data visualisation and improved data functionality.
  • Experience of working with performing data quality reviews and providing feedback and solutions to senior management.
  • Experience of the EDGE clinical research database.
  • Experience of Epic powered Digital Health Records (e.g. Connect DHR).
  • Experience of project management.
  • Experience of data visualisation tool (i.e. Qliksense).

Skills / knowledge:

  • Excellent data management and visualisation skills.
  • Knowledge of the regulatory framework for conducting clinical research, and requirements for site and sponsor level approvals.
  • Excellent knowledge of NHS data flows, legislation and structures.
  • Excellent understanding of research recruitment metrics and reporting and data cleansing requirements.
  • Ability to work constructively as an individual; as part of a close-knit team; and as part of a wider research community.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and prioritise workload.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.

The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the utmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
