The clinical oncology service for children and young people with malignancy has a significant international reputation and has an established record in innovative radiotherapy techniques. The Children's and Young People's Unit has an excellent, well-established paediatric oncology nursing service and there is excellent multidisciplinary care with well-developed integrated psychosocial, educational and family support.

Main duties of the job: The Oak Centre for Children and Young People is one of the largest comprehensive children's cancer centres in Europe, and the principal treatment centre for all children with cancer in the South Thames area. It is also home to one of Europe's largest and leading drug development programmes in paediatric oncology. The number of Phase I and II drug trials available for young people has increased from seven in 2009 to 23 in 2016. We also have one of the largest stem cell transplant services for patients with malignant disease in the UK.

  • Qualifications: Eligible for full GMC Registration, Membership to the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.
  • Experience: Broad-based experience in paediatrics and paediatric oncology, Extensive experience in paediatric oncology, Competent to deliver intrathecal chemotherapy and perform bone marrow aspirates and trephines unsupervised, Organisation of education and training of junior doctors, Experience in medical audit.

Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease. The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the utmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
