An exciting opportunity to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced Junior Sister for the Centre for Urgent Care (CUC) and Royal Marsden Hotline (RM Hotline) at the Chelsea site. The role involves working across both CUC and RM Hotline, requiring excellent clinical decision‑making and diagnostic skills for in‑person and telephone consultations.

Main duties of the job:

  • Coordinate and supervise a shift, communicating effectively with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high‑quality, evidence‑led care to patients.
  • Exercise clinical judgment and decision‑making about patient needs in terms of long‑term goals or plans.
  • Participate fully in the day‑to‑day organisation and running of clinical trials, including recruitment, education, monitoring of patients entering a clinical trial and liaising with trial sponsors.
  • Assume personal accountability for nursing care delivered to a patient in accordance with the NMC code of conduct.
  • Promote a safe clinical environment for all patients, visitors and staff.
  • Participate in Trust initiatives around infection control and care quality indicators.
  • Assist with any local or Trust initiatives to ensure continuous improvement of the quality of services and safeguarding of high standards of care.
  • Be aware of all hospital policies and procedures and collaborate with other health‑care professionals to ensure that these are observed.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities:

  • Explain and expand on clinical diagnosis; prepare for investigations; implement treatment in accordance with the treatment plan recorded in the patient’s records.
  • Assess the educational and informational needs of patients and their families, and provide appropriate evidence‑based information for safe management and care.
  • Adopt a problem‑solving approach to symptom management to minimize adverse reactions.
  • Administer/check intravenous antibiotics and supportive therapies, including all necessary blood products.
  • Administer medicines as prescribed in accordance with the Code (NMC 2018) and the Royal Marsden Medicines Management Policy.
  • Work in collaboration out of hours with the clinical site practitioner (CSP) team, Centre for Urgent Care (CUC) and liaise closely with the clinical team / on‑call team (medical, surgical SpR, consultants, pharmacist or laboratory service) to initiate appropriate care for patients accessing the service.

Person specification:

Education / Qualifications:

  • NMC Registration.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • RMH Certificate in Intravenous Drug Administration or to be obtained within three months of appointment.
  • Qualification in oncology or speciality Diploma or Degree level study (or equivalent) or willingness to undertake.
  • Recognised teaching qualification.

Experience:

  • Experience in intravenous drug administration.
  • Sufficient post‑registration nursing experience in oncology or speciality to be confident and competent in using the required skills to do the job.

Skills, Abilities and Knowledge:

  • Evidence of effective interpersonal skills with ability to liaise with multidisciplinary team members.
  • Evidence of working cooperatively in a team.
  • Ability to demonstrate self‑motivation (working with minimal supervision).
  • Ability to work accurately and reliably under pressure.
  • Ability to make decisions, organise and prioritise.
  • Evidence of commitment to customer care initiatives.
  • Knowledge and understanding of quality issues.
  • Ability to coordinate as shift/department.
  • Venepuncture and cannulation skills.
  • Evidence of understanding of the NHS Plan and current NHS issues.

Other requirements:

  • Flexibility to meet the needs of the service, i.e. shift work.
