Clinical Nurse Specialist - Skin, Melanoma and Immunotherapy

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the specialist nursing team at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder would have a distinct level of responsibility to patients with skin and melanoma cancers, as well as expert knowledge in immunotherapy as a treatment modality, and provide a comprehensive specialist nursing service to the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, working within a team of advanced clinical nurses. The successful candidate will have excellent clinical skills with significant experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist within this area. They will act as a clinical role model, promote effective multidisciplinary team working, support staff development and contribute to service improvement and patient experience.

Main duties of the job include:

• To provide professional and clinical leadership and expertise in the care of NHS and private care patients with skin and melanoma cancers, acting as a resource to provide information and support to patients, carers and staff.
• To take responsibility for own evidence-based practice and implement and add to the body of knowledge that supports nursing practice within Skin and Melanoma care, with a focus on immunotherapy as a treatment modality.
• To liaise effectively with all members of the multi-disciplinary health care team to achieve a synchronised specialist service.
• To provide informal and formal teaching, e.g. academic courses provided by the School of Nursing.

• To sustain a high-quality specialist service for the patient, from diagnosis through all stages of the disease and actively provide optimum liaison and continuity of care.
• To use advanced clinical judgement to plan, implement and evaluate care for patients throughout their cancer pathway.
• In collaboration with the existing Clinical Nurse Specialists, to formulate and/or revise relevant policies and to regularly review this following change/implementation.
• To work within the procedures and policies of the Trust.
• In conjunction with the existing Clinical Nurse Specialists, to develop assessment tools that will ensure an appropriate level of nursing intervention so that patients with complex needs are referred to the appropriate specialist/s.

Education/Qualifications required:

• NMC Registration
• Evidence of ongoing professional development
• Educated to Degree level
• Recognised teaching/mentorship qualification
• Postgraduate qualification in oncology or other speciality
• Evidence of Masters level learning or prepared to work towards

Experience required:

• Experience in intravenous drug administration
• Sufficient post-registration nursing experience in oncology at band 6 or above
• Experience of working as a Clinical Nurse Specialist
• Experience in at least one oncological treatment modality (systemic anti-cancer treatment, surgery or radiotherapy)
• Experience in Clinical Management
• Evidence of relevant teaching experience

Skills/Abilities/knowledge:

• Venepuncture and/or cannulation skills

Flu Vaccination – What We Expect of our Staff: At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease. The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the utmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
