Band 6 Physiotherapist for weekend and on-call support, Chelsea based. We are looking for motivated and experienced physiotherapists to join the Temporary Staffing Bank Pool of the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust.

Main duties of the job:

  • The Band 6 Physiotherapist is an active member of a team that provides a high quality; evidence based physiotherapy service for the patient with cancer.
  • Providing high quality physiotherapy care to patients across a number of specialist units.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities:

  • Provide a holistic, advanced, physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with a cancer diagnosis. These patients may present with complex physical, emotional and psychological needs as a result of their cancer diagnosis and its treatment with surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
  • Provide a physiotherapeutic diagnosis, to develop and deliver individualised treatment programmes and make appropriate referrals to other disciplines.
  • Hold responsibility for a defined clinical area and own caseload, working without direct supervision. Access to advice and support from senior physiotherapists is available, clinical work is not routinely evaluated by senior staff.
  • If successful, there will be a range of opportunities to gain experience across inpatient and outpatient settings, working within different clinical specialities through participation in the weekend and on-call rota. Specialities include critical care, GI, urology, haematology, gynae-oncology, sarcoma, head and neck, breast, lung and palliative care.
  • We are looking for enthusiastic physiotherapists with a special interest in the field of oncology to contribute to the physiotherapy weekend and on-call rota. There may be future opportunities for ad hoc shifts across specialities on an as needed basis.
  • You will be supported by senior colleagues within the division and be registered as part of the Temporary Staffing Bank pool.

Person specification:

Education/Qualifications:
  • Diploma/degree level qualification in physiotherapy
  • Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy or have alternative indemnity arrangements
  • HCPC Registered Physiotherapist
  • Evidence of ongoing personal/professional development through maintenance of CPD portfolio
Experience:
  • NHS experience
  • Demonstrable knowledge in core physiotherapy skills
  • Rotational experience in respiratory, neurology, orthopaedics and musculo-skeletal conditions
  • Knowledge/Experience in the treatment of patients with cancer
  • Relevant teaching/supervision experience
Skills Abilities/knowledge:
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, carers, physiotherapy colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to show tact and to manage boundaries
  • Able to work without direct supervision
  • Ability to make decisions, organise and prioritise
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment and recognise the additional stresses of patients/carers dealing with a cancer diagnosis
  • Ability to keep accurate and legible patient notes
  • Awareness of current NHS issues
  • Computer literate (e.g. Microsoft words and Outlook)
  • Membership of a clinical interest group in physiotherapy
Other Requirements:
  • Flexibility to meet the service needs
  • Ability to participate in the provision of an on call physiotherapy service
  • Able to work on both sites and to be flexible to meet the needs of the role

The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the utmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
