About the Role
At Royal Mail, we deliver letters and parcels to 31 million homes every day. To do this, we look after a lot of important information. We must keep this information safe, secure, and used in the right way.
We are offering two Privacy Apprentice opportunities within Royal Mail’s Data Protection Office (DPO). This is an exciting time to join us as Royal Mail continues its digital transformation, with data playing a central role in how we operate.
As a Privacy Apprentice, you will rotate across the DPO teams in Sheffield and London, gaining hands-on experience in privacy assessments, information rights, governance, assurance activities and cultural change programmes. The apprenticeship is designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills and confidence to begin a successful career in data protection.
What you will do
- You will play an active role in supporting the Data Protection Office to deliver high‑quality privacy services. This includes:
- Supporting information rights handling, including customer and colleague enquiries.
- Assisting with data incident reporting, investigation and remediation work.
- Identifying trends and opportunities for process improvements based on requests received.
- Helping maintain a Privacy Centre of Excellence by supporting policy, process and guidance updates.
- Co‑creating engaging training and awareness materials to embed privacy across Royal Mail.
- Producing reports on risk profiles and supporting risk‑reduction activities.
- Providing logistical and administrative support to Privacy Partners in their work with business stakeholders.
- Contributing to Think Secure initiatives, including campaigns on phishing, cyber awareness and information security for our nationwide workforce.
About You
We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about building a career in Privacy & Data Protection and committed to completing the Data Protection and Information Governance Practitioner apprenticeship.
You will bring:
- A passion for data protection, privacy and helping others understand it.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to think critically.
- Experience of collecting, analysing and presenting data.
- An understanding of confidentiality and responsible handling of information.
- A willingness to learn new tools, techniques and legislation.

What we’re looking for
You don’t need special experience — just:
- A C/grade 4 or above in Maths and English
- An interest in data, technology or privacy
- Someone who enjoys learning new things
- Someone who is organised and pays attention to detail
Where you will work
You can be based in Sheffield or London. There will be regular travel between the two sites — it’s all part of the job and costs will be covered.
