We are currently recruiting for a Resident Electrical and Maintenance Engineer based at North West Midlands Mail Centre.

Job reference number

Salary – £44,551.95 per annum plus standby allowance c£290 per week, when on rota, and appropriate overtime rate when attending the call, 22.5 days annual leave, rising to 25 after 5 years’ service plus bank holidays

Contract: Permanent, Full time 37.50 hours per week (excluding meal breaks) – typical attendance will be 08:00 until 16:00 Monday to Friday however, flexibility is essential.

You’ll be required to join an out of hours callout rota 1 in 5 weeks covering a wider area.

We\’re looking for someone with strong technical expertise in electrical systems, mechanical power, control wiring, and electrical installation testing and inspection. In this role, you\’ll take the lead on a variety of facilities management systems, with a primary focus on electrical maintenance.

Flexibility is key — you\’ll be working across multiple sites within a defined area, and a company vehicle will be provided to support your travel. Your excellent communication skills will help you build strong relationships with both customers and managers, keeping everyone informed and aligned. Strong organisational skills will also be essential to manage your workload effectively and ensure smooth project delivery.

About the role

  • Carry out maintenance of electrical systems across a variety of commercial sites
  • Diagnose faults and provide expert advice to customers, particularly on equipment like roller shutter doors and dock levellers
  • Perform basic plumbing tasks, including replacing taps, sinks, cistern flush units, and heating elements
  • Apply technical knowledge and personal judgement to deliver high‑quality work that meets cost and time targets
  • As a Lead Engineer you will provide clear technical guidance to colleagues and customers to help resolve issues efficiently
  • Manage the delivery of both planned and corrective maintenance in line with contract performance standards
  • Liaise daily with customer representatives to ensure all requirements are met and expectations exceeded
  • Ensure all relevant paperwork is completed accurately and in accordance with approved procedures
  • Promote a strong safety culture by setting a positive example for colleagues and customers
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships, representing yourself and Royal Mail Property & Facilities Solutions professionally at all times

About you

  • Must hold an Electrical certification such as the 18th Edition.
  • Possess full electrical City & Guilds qualifications — including 2382 and 2391 Testing & Inspection
  • Demonstrated experience in planned maintenance of both electrical and mechanical systems
  • Skilled in fault finding and diagnosis, with the ability to advise others across various systems
  • Strong communication skills, capable of explaining technical issues clearly to customers
  • Confident in analysing and resolving complex electrical system challenges
  • Ideally trained and certified in IPAF and MEWP and comfortable working at heights
  • Proven experience working with customers in a commercial environment
  • Hold a valid UK driving licence (preferably with no endorsements), as travel across sites is required
  • Computer literacy skills an advantage
