Role

We are seeking an Automation Maintenance Engineer at our Midlands Super Hub site to ensure the smooth operation of state‑of‑the‑art automation systems. The role involves preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance of automation assets, driving continuous improvement projects, and collaborating with the Engineering Manager and team leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Keep automation assets performing at their best through preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance.
  • Drive continuous improvement projects from concept to implementation.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Manager and team leaders, completing reports and logging faults.
  • Diagnose and resolve automation breakdowns quickly to keep operations flowing.
  • Monitor performance and work with stakeholders to boost output.
  • Take ownership of continuous improvement projects focused on enhancing machinery performance in our Hub/Mail Centre.

Qualifications

  • Qualified in electrical and mechanical engineering (minimum ONC Electrical Engineering / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).
  • Experience maintaining automation equipment, ideally with PLC knowledge.
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation.
  • Proactive team player who can also work independently.
  • Full manual UK driving licence (for occasional travel to other sites).

Benefits

  • Salary: £54,791 per annum plus shift allowances and weekend supplements.
  • Night shift allowance.
  • Weekend supplements: £54.73 per Saturday attendance and £109.47 per Sunday attendance.
  • 22.5 days annual leave including bank holidays.
  • Defined contribution pension scheme.
  • Permanent contract, full‑time (40 hours per week).

Shift Pattern

The role requires shift rotation covering early, late and night shifts with an 8‑week rota alternating two weeks days and two weeks nights, including weekend working. Example rota: Days – 06:30 to 18:30 or 07:00 to 19:00; Nights – 18:30 to 06:30 or 19:00 to 07:00.
