This is a senior leadership role with end‑to‑end accountability for delivering strategic, high‑impact products across Technology and, where required, across Business units. You will lead cross‑functional Agile teams to design, build and deliver innovative PDA and mobile products that directly support Royal Mail Operations. If you thrive in complex environments, enjoy solving large‑scale operational challenges, and want to influence the direction of a national organisation, this is a rare opportunity to make a meaningful impact.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead large platform product teams to deliver both Tech‑for‑Business and Tech‑for‑Tech initiatives.
- Own and shape product roadmaps, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities.
- Design, prioritise and deliver product backlogs in an iterative Agile environment.
- Ensure PDA and mobile products align with wider RMG strategic initiatives.
- Review and approve work delivered by Technical Product Owners and Business Analysts.
- Assess prototypes, manage technical debt and evaluate feasibility of new features.
- Remove blockers by collaborating with engineering teams, partners and suppliers.
- Ensure solutions are secure, scalable, cost‑effective and compliant with best practice and regulatory standards (e.g., FinOps, security, compliance).
- Identify and drive cost optimisation opportunities across the platform.
- Work closely with architects and engineers on solution design.
- Coordinate dependencies across product domains and identify external impacts.
- Forecast and manage product budgets, including re‑forecasting where required.
- Recruit, mentor and develop Product Owners and Business Analysts.
- Be accountable for benefits realisation, delivery performance and change management.
- Track product performance using KPIs and user feedback to drive continuous improvement.
- Manage commercial activity, shifting priorities and feature changes across the domain.
- Stay ahead of industry trends and champion early adoption where it adds value.
- Monitor and improve compliance with contractual obligations across RMG and third‑party suppliers.
About the Platform
You will oversee multiple mobile products (both business‑led and tech‑led) with a combined budget of £3–5m, managing 4–6 Product Owners across technology and business teams.
What You’ll Bring
We’re looking for a seasoned product leader with experience delivering enterprise‑scale products in complex environments. You will have:
- A software engineering background to guide teams on technical impact, architecture and troubleshooting.
- Strong hands‑on experience with cloud‑based PaaS/SaaS solutions, including APIM, Azure Service Bus, Cosmos DB and other Azure services.
- Experience with automated deployments, feature flagging and modern DevOps practices.
- Deep understanding of cloud architecture, cloud optimisation and secure engineering practices.
- UX/UI design awareness and experience working on cross‑platform mobile and handheld enterprise devices.
- Proven experience engaging with operations and business stakeholders to translate demand into product backlogs.
- Experience leading Tech‑for‑Tech initiatives, including platform migrations and upgrades.
- A track record of delivering cloud‑based mobile products at scale.
- Strong Agile and DevOps Ways of Working, including backlog management and release planning.
- Experience empowering and developing high‑performing product and BA teams.
- Familiarity with tools such as Azure DevOps, JIRA, Confluence, and release management tooling.
- A recognised project or product management qualification (preferred).
- Experience supporting organisations transitioning from Waterfall to Agile delivery.
Why Join Us
This is a chance to lead products that directly impact thousands of frontline colleagues and millions of customers.
