About The Role

  • Manage full appeal hearings for dismissals, conduct appeals and investigating allegations made by employees under the Raising Concerns policy (including protected characteristic concerns), Employee Confidential Disclosures (ECDs – Whistleblowing), and CEO/Executive Committee-level complaints. Consistently mitigate cost and reputational damage to the business through a systematic approach to casework that prioritises thoroughness and stakeholder engagement.
  • Represent RMG in the defence of Early Conciliation & Employment Tribunal claims, working with External Legal Service Providers, including decision making and authority to settle claims on behalf of the business at Judicial Mediation during preliminary discussions in line with our ways of working.
  • Represent RMG as panel member for National Appeals Panel (NAP) cases for union representatives.
  • Communicate outcomes to employees, their representatives and decision managers at all levels by engaging with key stakeholders on the progress of complex and sensitive casework and Employment Tribunal cases, whilst managing conflicting pressures.
  • Improve line manager capability through identification of development needs and provision of feedback on an individual basis and sharing learning from cases overall with key stakeholders. Support and lead on improvement measures resulting from case feedback and outcomes.
  • Act on identified trends by supporting and carrying out pre-emptive and remedial work such as targeted training or listening sessions.
  • Maintain up-to-date systems and comprehensive case files through accurate case notes to ensure transparency and accountability throughout case progression and deliver service excellence.
About You
  • Thorough understanding of standard HR policies, procedures, and associated employment law.
  • Familiarity with a complex operational business, with functional standards and ways of working.
  • CIPD Level 5/employment law qualification desirable.
  • Self-motivating and comfortable operating remotely with support of regional team
  • Planning and organisation skills.
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills.
  • Effective analysis, judgement and decision making.
  • Ability to manage a varied case load to specific performance targets.
  • Problem solving and dispute resolution skills.
  • Ability to influence and challenge key stakeholders and suppliers at all levels.
