Reporting to: Managing Director, Royal Mail Engineering
Location: UK‑wide remit, flexible with regular site travel
The role:
- Set the strategic direction and operational plan for all FM services, ensuring safe, compliant, cost‑effective, and high‑quality delivery across the Royal Mail estate.
- Lead a significant national operation, balancing uninterrupted business continuity with continuous improvement and transformation.
- Own full P&L accountability, delivering year‑on‑year improvements across cost, service, quality, and safety.
- Drive the evolution of the FM operating model, including progressing a self‑delivery strategy aligned to Royal Mail’s performance and efficiency goals.
- Act as a senior duty holder for building safety, championing a strong health, safety, and compliance culture across all FM activity.
- Lead energy management and carbon reduction, including delivery of the energy and CO₂ programme and associated Capex investment.
- Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders across Royal Mail Group, Operations, Engineering, and national trade union representatives.
- Lead, develop, and empower a senior leadership team, building succession and capability across Facilities Management while role‑modelling inclusive and values‑led leadership.

About You:
- You will be an experienced, credible senior leader with a strong track record of operating at scale in complex, safety‑critical environments.
- You are comfortable balancing operational delivery with strategic change and leading large, unionised workforces.
- Extensive senior leadership experience within Facilities Management or a closely aligned operational environment.
- Proven accountability for large P&L budgets and delivery of financial, service, and safety performance.
- Strong experience across hard and soft FM services, major third‑party contracts, and large property portfolios.
- Demonstrable success leading transformation, efficiency programmes, and continuous improvement.
- High levels of stakeholder influence, including experience working with senior executives and trade unions.
- A commercial, resilient, and people‑centred leadership style.
- Strong working knowledge of health & safety, regulatory, and compliance requirements.
- A strong growth mindset, with the ability to develop and execute strategies that drive expansion and long‑term value.
Professional membership (e.g. RICS, BIFM/IWFM, CIOB) is desirable, with an MBA or equivalent qualification welcomed.
