Salary – £39,148.30 per annum plus standby allowance c£290 per week when on rota, and appropriate overtime rate when attending the call, 22.5 days annual leave rising to 25 after 5 years’ service plus bank holidays.
Contract: Permanent, Full time 37.5 hours per week (excluding meal breaks). Typical attendance will be 08:00 until 16:00 Monday to Friday; flexibility is essential. You’ll be required to join an out of hours callout rota 1 in 5 weeks covering a wider area. The role will be based equally between on‑site work at Birmingham Mail Centre and regular coverage of surrounding Royal Mail Delivery Offices across the wider Birmingham area.
We’re looking for someone with strong technical expertise in electrical systems, mechanical power, control wiring, and electrical installation testing and inspection. In this role, you’ll take the lead on a variety of facilities management systems, with a primary focus on electrical maintenance. Flexibility is key — you'll be working across multiple sites within a defined area, and a company vehicle will be provided to support your travel.
Your excellent communication skills will help you build strong relationships with both customers and managers, keeping everyone informed and aligned. Strong organisational skills will also be essential to manage your workload effectively and ensure smooth project delivery.
About the role
- Carry out maintenance of electrical systems across a variety of commercial sites
- Diagnose faults and provide expert advice to customers, particularly on equipment like roller shutter doors and dock levellers
- Perform basic plumbing tasks, including replacing taps, sinks, cistern flush units, and heating elements
- Apply technical knowledge and personal judgement to deliver high‑quality work that meets cost and time targets
- Offer clear technical guidance to colleagues and customers to help resolve issues efficiently
- Manage the delivery of both planned and corrective maintenance in line with contract performance standards
- Liaise daily with customer representatives to ensure all requirements are met and expectations exceeded
- Ensure all relevant paperwork is completed accurately and in accordance with approved procedures
- Promote a strong safety culture by setting a positive example for colleagues and customers
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships, representing yourself and Royal Mail Property
