Role
Infrastructure Manager β Cloud Engineer β Azure will be a subject matter expert in Azure, in addition must have in depth technical knowledge of traditional physical, virtualised, hybrid and converged hosting models.
Job Purpose
Cloud Engineers are responsible for delivering Strategic Infrastructure Initiatives and maintaining service availability with accountability for annual cloud budgets exceeding Β£10 million. Cloud Infrastructure Managers take a lead role in the RM Cloud Centre of Excellence to drive value from cloud technologies. Build strong relationships with stakeholders across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Be the technical engineering authority for multiple cloud platforms (Azure, GCP & AWS), ensuring cloud resource usage aligns with the Cloud Adoption Framework of the respective provider.
- Drive the migration of >3k workloads from on-premise data centres to Software Defined Data Centres (SDDC) leveraging native and hybrid cloud architectures.
- Ensure Infrastructure as Code (IaC) scripts are managed in a central Git repository and maintained for core environmental configuration changes.
- Drive the automation agenda to introduce self service for platform and product engineering to enable DevSecOps ways of working.
- Define, publish, deploy and maintain cloud blueprints, guidelines, standards, patterns and policy to drive consistency across all cloud technologies.
- Collaborate with the Cloud Centre of Excellence and other Technology functions to promote best practice and continuous improvement.
- Work with the wider CCoE team to define a Cloud Roadmap with prioritisation, resource and budget alignment.
- Contribute to a FinOps culture to apply cost controls to cloud resources.
- Identify and report risks and issues related to your tower, and develop recommendations and mitigation activities.
- Support accreditation audits and compliance activities.
- Engage with stakeholders to drive informed decisions and recommendations.
- Develop and publish an infrastructure roadmap to modernise the technology landscape and inform investment.
- Contribute to monthly governance packs and reporting to technology executives.
- Understand Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for technologies within the infrastructure tower and ensure efficient service delivery.
- Ensure data accuracy in the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) for infrastructure assets.
- Lead on designing, publishing and maintaining Terraform code via Azure DevOps pipelines to support core infrastructure deployments.
