We are looking for an experienced Litigation Solicitor to join our high performing Legal team, reporting to the Head of Litigation. This position is ideal for a solicitor currently in private practice who is ready to take their first step into an in-house environment, or someone currently in-house looking to broaden their skill set. It offers a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience across a wide range of contentious matters, both pre-action and issued claims.
About the role
- Provide robust, practical legal advice on litigation and consumer/commercial disputes, ensuring alignment with business needs and Royal Mail objectives.
- Manage a variety of disputes: contract, IP, IT, ASA complaints, commercial torts, property disputes, complex customer complaints, and regulatory issues.
- Handle litigation in-house where appropriate.
- Partner with stakeholders across the business and within the legal team to provide clear, commercially focused legal advice.
- Assist in the management of the small claims portfolio, liaising with external solicitors as appropriate.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders and deliver training on legal and risk issues.
- Manage outsourced legal work, ensuring quality and cost control.
- Drive product development, including training programmes, guides, and internal know-how.
- Proactively understand and implement the legal team’s vision, strategy, values.
About You
- Adaptability, commercial awareness, and excellent communication skills are key.
- Proactive, collaborative, and ready to make a real impact.
- Qualified Solicitor with at least 3-8 years’ post-qualification experience in commercial litigation (the PQE quoted is a guide only, candidates from outside this range are not precluded from applying).
- Ability to handle small claims and large disputes.
- Ability to provide robust legal advice, often dealing with senior stakeholders and at short notice.
- Strong knowledge of Civil Procedure Rules.
- Experience with GDPR claims (desirable).
