The Energy Team are a central team operating from within the Engineering division of Royal Mail Group with the responsibility of delivering energy management support across the whole property portfolio of c.1,500 buildings. With a workforce of over 100,000 employees and a fleet of over 30,000 vehicles, including an ever-expanding EV fleet, Royal Mail's ambition is to achieve net zero carbon by 2040 with a 25% water reduction target by 2030.
The team is expanding, and we have two vacancies for Energy Analysts to support the Energy Manager in delivering property energy management plans, including water, in line with our net zero carbon, environmental and sustainability targets.
The primary focus of the role is to support best practice energy management and the delivery of energy and water efficiency savings, renewable generation, and low carbon technologies. This will be achieved by:
- Managing the change control process for site utilities additions and disposals by amending, adding or removing accounts.
- Co‑ordinating all partners engaged in the provision of fiscal and sub‑metering assets and data collection, working closely with utilities suppliers and meter operators to maintain a database of interval and billing utilities data.
- Expediting and receiving invoices each month to prevent accruals and incorrect payments.
- Challenging all utilities invoices and ensuring the values and meter reads are accurate.
- Undertaking tariff, volume consumption and tolerance checks to confirm invoice charges are appropriate, accurate and in accordance with agreed terms.
- Where utilities invoices have not been received, use industry best practice to produce monthly accrual reports and work with Finance to manage and unwind legacy accruals.
- Measuring energy and water consumption, using performance indicators, and share with the wider business to help drive behaviour change and awareness.
- Identify, understand and record drivers for performance and opportunities for energy reduction to include supply chain decision-making, building and building services design, learnings from behaviour change activities and decarbonisation of scope 1 emissions.
- Working with Engineering, Property and Operations, to drive operational efficiencies, and best practice energy management.
Location: Leeds area preferred, remote working with occasional travel.
You need to demonstrate the following skills and experience on your CV:
- Extensive experience in the energy, low‑carbon or related industry (essential)
- Good understanding of principles of energy management, building services and controls (essential) and building energy management systems (BEMS).
- An understanding of ISO50001 Energy Management Systems (EnMS) standard and plan‑do‑check‑act continuous improvement methodology.
- Excellent understanding of key monitoring and targeting (M&T) and measurement and verification (M&V) systems and approaches.
- Good presentational and written skills.
- Strong data analytics, interpretation and reporting skills.
- Chartered (or working towards) chartership status of appropriate professional body (e.g. Energy Institute, CIBSE).
