£38,114 per annum, night shift allowance, potential 15% bonus. 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays. Full time, 38 hours per week, night shift, Permanent. PFW Coventry National Hub, Middlemarch Business Park, Coventry, CV3 4PF.

We have a vacancy for a Section Manager to join the team at our fast‑paced site in our National Hub, Coventry, who is responsible for the overall management of operations across the National or International Hub work area, and the achievement of quality, financial, automation and employee targets and objectives.

The role:

  • As Section Manager, you'll lead a team of 15 frontline operatives on the night shift to effectively clear daily parcel volumes in a fast‑paced operational environment, managing daily / weekly KPIs and performance, sick absence, attendance, training and the development of your team.
  • You'll achieve maximum efficiency through resource and contingency planning, ensuring fully skilled resource is available to use automation to maximum capacity, driving quality of service and maximising productivity.
  • Working to tight timescales you'll drive the depot to achieve the highest possible customer service satisfaction levels whilst ensuring a swift resolution to all customer enquiries and complaints.

Other accountabilities:

  • Review all key measurement outputs (efficiency, quality, budget, employee & customer) to identify trends in work area performance and focus team on improvement actions.
  • Take work area responsibility for delivery of national, or area initiatives and support the National Hub management team in local planning and implementation of specific initiatives.
  • Plan, negotiate and introduce new work plans by co‑ordinating work area level revision activity.
  • For specific operational activities, allocate available resource to workload as necessary across the shift.
  • Co‑ordinate regular and direct communication activity of key messages impacting on work area, including team brief cascades and the delivery of weekly meetings.
  • Take an active role in the induction process for new entrants and job changes, develop teams to maximise performance.
  • Ensure work area compliance to the health and safety policy (including risk assessment), addressing day‑to‑day issues, and liaison with union H&S representatives.

Attendance: 17:00 - 03:00, 4 nights over Monday to Friday. A degree of flexibility is required to meet operational demands.

About you:

  • Resilience and able to work in a high‑pressure, unionised environment/workforce.
  • Visible / hands on leadership style with experience of managing large teams of front‑line employees in an operational/production environment.
  • Understanding of HR legislation and processes.
  • Previous parcel operations experience and knowledge of functional automation applications would be beneficial.
  • Performance and target focused with experience of achieving KPIs.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills.
  • Strong influencing skills, with experience of successfully working with trade unions and senior stakeholders.
  • Sound analytical and business judgment including demonstrated problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to plan, lead, and execute strategic initiatives in a complex environment.
