As Ward Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the clinical, operational and people management of the ward, providing visible leadership, maintaining excellent standards of care, and supporting staff to thrive in a complex and rewarding environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strong, visible clinical and professional leadership to the ward nursing team, acting as a role model at all times.
  • Maintain high standards of patient care in line with the NMC Code, RHN policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead the day-to-day operational management of the ward, ensuring safe staffing, appropriate skill mix and effective rota management.
  • Support, develop and manage staff through supervision, performance reviews, coaching and reflective practice.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive and engaged team culture that promotes learning, wellbeing and continuous improvement.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, patients, families and external partners to deliver person-centred care.
  • Contribute to the assessment and admission process for new patients within the Brain Injury Service.
  • Monitor quality, safety and risk on the ward, leading incident reviews, audits and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with mandatory training, governance standards and hospital policies.
  • Manage ward resources effectively, including workforce planning and budget awareness.
  • Act as a senior nursing representative in meetings and contribute to service development projects.
  • Participate in the on-call and senior nursing cover rota as required.
