Overview of the role

We are looking for a Public Programming coordinator to support the creation and delivery of the public engagement programming activities at RHS Garden Bridgewater, in Salford. You will join the dynamic and passionate Public Programming team based at RHS Garden Bridgewater and will be part of the new RHS-wide division Learning and Public Engagement, formed to create a step change within the RHS to bring out learning and audience engagement – an exciting time to join the UK’s leading gardening charity.

As the Public Programming Coordinator at RHS Garden Bridgewater, you will play a key role in engaging audiences at RHS Garden Bridgewater with RHS content, such as plants, gardens, gardening and growing, in ways that are exciting and inspiring, and that attract new and more audiences to the garden.

You will support the Public Programme Manager in the creation, planning and operational delivery of Public Programming activities at the garden, such as installations, family activities, flower shows and themed festivals.

As Public Programming Coordinator at RHS Garden Bridgewater you are responsible for:

  • Supporting the Public Programming Manager and Head of Public Engagement in the creation, planning and operational delivery of innovative Public Engagement programming at RHS Garden Bridgewater.
  • Lead the development and delivery of some Programming strands at RHS Garden Bridgewater
  • Deal with the administration of planning and delivering programming.
  • Manage the Public Programming volunteering team at RHS Garden Bridgewater
  • Participate in cross garden planning activities and actively contributing to the development and implementation of the RHS cross garden Public Engagement programme.
  • Research current practice in creative programming.
  • Support the Programming Manager with the Health and Safety of Public Programming activities.

About you

You will:

  • Have experience of audience-focused engagement programming and experiences within gardens, museums, arts, attractions or other similar settings.
  • Have excellent people skills with the ability to build strong working relationships.
  • Have a proven track record of managing a busy work load with multiple strands and delivering to deadline.
  • Experience of delivering events in a range of settings and an interest in outdoor events.
  • Have outstanding organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Have creative flair and a passion for trying new things, with an understanding of the current public engagement programming market and best practice.
  • Have a good understanding of Health and Safety legislation in respect of public events and programming.
  • Ideally also have a passion for plants, growing and gardening.
