At RHS Garden Wisley we are looking to recruit a keen horticulturist to join the Trials Team.
The team are at the forefront of trialling plants for the RHS Award of Garden Merit (AGM), working alongside the RHS expert groups to ensure the success of the plant trials.
The Trials Garden is home to a wide range of ornamental plant trials, which sits within the historic formal areas of Wisley, and the new edible trialling area is located within the Orchard Landscape.
As a member of this team, you will be overseeing the cultivation of plant trials (edible and ornamental) in both open ground and containers for anything between a few months, up to five years, depending on the genera.
The role involves overseeing students and volunteers and carrying out a diverse range of horticultural tasks; from planting, dead-heading and pruning, to feeding, mulching, taking soil samples for analysis, troubleshooting pest and disease and even measuring the sugar content for crops such as tomatoes.
The role also involves the recording of data for the trials in Word documents and Excel spreadsheets.
You should also have the ability to lead or work as part of a team.
As well as your primary role working on plant trials, as a member of the curatorial team at RHS Garden Wisley you will contribute to the wider upkeep of the garden during curatorial days, where the whole garden team work together on a number of key tasks.
There is also ample opportunity to take on ornamental remit within the role and to get involved in designing creative ornamental displays to inspire visitors, both in the trials areas and across the wider garden.
To work for the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) is to join a thriving charity, whose mission is to be there for everyone on their lifelong adventure with gardening.
Everything we do is built on the transformational power of gardening - and the benefits it brings to people, places and our planet.
Safeguarding and Inclusion
The RHS is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk and expects all personnel to share in this commitment.
We are an inclusive employer and welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
