Overview

In this role, you will lead hydrological analysis and support hydraulic modelling for flood risk and infrastructure projects. You’ll collaborate with clients and regulators to deliver sustainable water-focused solutions within a multidisciplinary team. You’ll work on urban and rural flood risk, nature-based solutions, and river restoration, contributing to transformative water management efforts. Responsibilities

  • Deliver hydrological analysis and defend approaches with clients and regulators
  • Lead flood frequency analysis using FEH methods and hydro-modelling tools (e.g., ReFH2, WINFAP)
  • Develop low-flow studies and drought assessments including LowFlows2 applications
  • Analyse hydrometric data and derive flow regimes for weir removal, fish passage, and river restoration
  • Apply NFM and nature-based solutions concepts to modelling studies
  • Utilise GIS (QGIS/ArcGIS) for data handling and presentation
  • Provide specialist hydrological input for Flood Risk Assessments and UK flood risk policy
  • Manage project proposals, resources, subcontractors, and invoicing; lead smaller projects
  • Contribute to QA and drive innovative approaches within the team
  • Mentor junior staff and liaise with Project Manager and Hydro Modellers
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams and maintain client relations
  • Adapt to flexible roles to support modelling deliverables as required

Key requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant analytical subject
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in hydrological studies and catchment analysis
  • Strong experience in FEH methodologies, ReFH2, FSIR methods, and Lowland/Pumped Catchments
  • Proficiency with LowFlows2 modelling software
  • Extensive GIS experience (QGIS/ArcGIS)
  • Excellent communication and technical reporting skills
  • Ability to manage commercial aspects of projects
  • Experience reviewing hydrological analyses and calculations
