The Royal Borough of Greenwich is undergoing a period of substantial change and growth. With one of the highest housing targets in London and Opportunity Areas identified for transformational change in Woolwich and Charlton Riverside, together with a New Town at Thamesmead, this is an exceptional opportunity to influence change in a key part of London.
Working within the Plan Making Team, you will play an essential role in the examination and adoption of Royal Greenwich’s new Local Plan. Reporting to the Head of Plan Making and Place Shaping, you will be responsible for leading a significant area of planning policy and proposed site allocations. Topics include housing, employment, infrastructure, town centres and managing the impacts of climate change. The role also includes supporting junior staff. You will work with colleagues across the Council and key external stakeholders to help guide the Local Plan through its independent Examination in Public and ensure the adoption of a robust and up-to-date planning policy framework.
We are looking for a talented individual with planning policy expertise who is eager to tackle a wide remit of planning issues. It is an exciting time to join the team as we embark on the submission of our new Local Plan for Examination in Public and we are looking for someone willing to embrace this challenge. The post requires an appropriate qualification in planning or a related discipline, and a track record of experience in planning policy, including the Examination in Public process. You will need to demonstrate your ability to analyse and present information clearly and effectively, complemented by a good understanding of current legislation, policy, guidance, and best practice in a London context. Good communication skills and the ability to respond confidently in a variety of situations are essential. You should be effective at working in a team to tight deadlines.
