Greenwich Mental Health invites applications for a Level 2 Social Worker/AMHP or an experienced Level 1 Social Worker willing to train and undertake the Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) role within the ADAPT (Anxiety, Depression, Affective Disorders, Personality Disorders and Trauma) Team. This team provides a full range of support to adults aged 16‑65 with complex mental‑health needs, including depression, anxiety, personality disorder and psychosocial challenges.

The role is based at Greenwich West Locality, 68 The Heights, Charlton, SE7 8JH and is part of a multidisciplinary service that includes community mental health nurses, occupational therapists, support workers, administrative staff, psychologists, psychiatrists and other professionals.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage a caseload of service users, collaborating with families or carers to deliver strengths‑based, person‑centred interventions.
  • Conduct Care Act 2014 assessments, care planning and review under the Care Act; undertake statutory functions of the social work role (Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, Mental Health Act, Children Act and related legislation).
  • Undertake the AMHP role on behalf of the local authority, participating in the Greenwich Central AMHP Team borough‑wide rota.
  • Provide safeguarding adult and child support, act as Safeguarding Adults Manager, Enquiry Officer, MARAC Representative and Think Family Champion where appropriate.
  • Lead the assessment and support of individuals using self‑help approaches to improve problem‑solving and coping skills.
  • Participate in Section 117 discharge and care planning processes and meetings.
  • Support inter‑agency collaboration and networking with local authorities, housing, third sector organisations, voluntary agencies and community networks.
  • Complete statutory documentation and reports within required time‑frames.
  • Assess needs of groups who are difficult to engage or those from excluded groups (e.g. nil recourse, drugs/alcohol).
  • Maintain current knowledge and skills through mandatory and relevant training.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Level 2 Social Worker / AMHP or experienced Level 1 Social Worker willing to train and undertake the AMHP role.
  • Experience in community mental health, delivering care assessments and support planning.
  • Ability to manage a caseload and work autonomously with service users, families and carers.
  • Strong knowledge of statutory legislation (Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Mental Health Act 1983, Children Act 1989).
  • Commitment to a strengths‑based, person‑centred approach and ability to work proactively within a multidisciplinary team.
