RGS Guildford is recruiting a Sports Assistant on a ten month contract from September 2026. This is a great opportunity to gain some valuable experience working in a successful Sports department with access to some impressive facilities.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Sport, the Sports Assistant will:

  • Coach and organise school and house teams independently;
  • Co-ordinate the ordering of sporting equipment and maintain its upkeep;
  • Contribute to the following duties: transport, lunch, library, weights room and catering duties during the week or on Saturdays.

Saturday commitments (average of 5 hours depending on the sport) include:

  • Coaching;
  • Refereeing;
  • Organising and serving sports teas;
  • Videoing and analysing match day videos.

The successful candidate will feel confident officiating inter-school matches (with training and guidance), will demonstrate a positive work ethic and show empathy to the students they coach. They will be provided with appropriate training and an induction to allow them to perform at their best. School staff sports kit will also be provided. The ability to drive would be beneficial.

This will be a fixed term contract until July 2027 with flexible working hours of up to 30 hours per week paying £12.80/hour plus holiday pay. Employment will not include school holidays.

The Royal Grammar School has a responsibility for and commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The person appointed to this post will be required to apply for an enhanced Disclosure Certificate from the DBS.
