As a pivotal member of the PPU operational team, the Assistant Service Manager will work closely with PPU consultants, service users, stakeholders and the senior management team. The post holder will support the PPU Service Manager in the operational delivery, performance management and continuous improvement of private patient administrative and customer service functions. The post holder will provide operational leadership through the direct management of three Band 5 Team Leads, ensuring safe, effective and high-quality service delivery.

The role requires strong leadership, performance oversight, financial awareness and the ability to work collaboratively with clinical, operational and corporate colleagues to deliver excellent patient experience and meet PPU performance, quality and financial targets. The post holder will contribute towards new services’ pathways, end to end processes’ design and implementation ensuring ongoing and progressive successful service growth and delivery to support consultant engagement and retention. The postholder will also be responsible for improving customer service standards, patient, consultant, service users and stakeholders experience.

Through effective leadership of the Team Leads, the post holder will ensure that excellent customer service and efficient administrative processes underpin the delivery of services. Responsibilities will include oversight of service performance, activity and financial capture, data quality, workforce management, stakeholder engagement and the embedding of robust administrative processes.

Educated to degree level or equivalent experience

Experience

  • Significant demonstrable experience of working in the private healthcare sector or NHS PPU in a junior management position
  • Experience of monitoring service performance, activity and KPIs
  • Experience of contributing to service improvement and implementing new ways of working
  • Experience of working across inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic services

Skills and aptitudes

  • Ability to manage staff performance, sickness absence, conduct and capability through line managers
  • High level of organisational skills and ability to manage allocation of workload across individuals
  • Ability to monitor, analyse and respond to service performance, KPIs and activity data
  • Computer literate and experienced. Strong working knowledge and professional proficiency in the use of Outlook package – Power point, Excel, Microsoft Word as well as Access, email, Internet Compuware CERNER CRIS IRRIS EPR EDRM
  • Understanding of financial capture, billing readiness and private patient processes
  • Ability to deal with patient complaints and complex service issues appropriately
  • Deal effectively with any service specific issues that arise
  • Ability to present information to an individual or group as appropriate
  • Understanding of targets and initiatives relating to NHS PPUs
