Job Description

The post holder has responsibility for the management and co-ordination of a midwifery team / clinical and specialist area. This includes the deployment, supervision, and teaching of junior midwives and students.

The overall objective of the post holder is to work as a clinical and managerial leader, taking responsibility for the co-ordination of a team of midwives in a clinical area within the hospital, providing antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care to women with both low and high risk.

This includes homebirth services and midwifery-led care services.

The post holder, in conjunction with the Clinical Midwifery Manager / Modern Matron, is responsible for leading change in clinical practice, providing high-quality twenty-four-hour midwifery care within available resources, and enacting the maternity unit’s risk management policy. They facilitate the implementation of Clinical Governance within the maternity unit and in the community.

Organizational Context

North Mid is part of the North Central London integrated care system – consisting of NHS and Local authority organizations in Camden, Islington, Barnet, Enfield, and Haringey. As with other ICSs, we are working increasingly closely with partners, and many of our financial and performance objectives are measured at this system level. While all organizations remain standalone statutory bodies, we have an ICS infrastructure for making shared decisions and agreeing on shared approaches.

Our Commitment

We are proud of our staff and aim to ensure their training enables them to provide excellent clinical care. We are also a training unit for medical students from UCL and St George’s University Grenada, as well as for nursing and midwifery students from Middlesex and City Universities.
