Overview

This 2 year fixed term training contract will lead to a level 3 pharmacy technician qualification and the successful candidate will become a registered pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). They will undertake distance learning and participate in a comprehensive in-house training programme provided by the team, with rotation through the different areas within Pharmacy. Apprentices spend a minimum of 6 hours per week of their working hours completing classroom-based learning in addition to on‑the‑job training.

The successful candidate must be dynamic, self-motivated, willing to work hard, learn from a multidisciplinary team and be a team player, with proven ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure. Excellent communication and IT skills, attention to detail and the ability to travel between the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust sites are essential.

Responsibilities and Training

  • Work towards the attached job description and develop competencies; not all duties are expected to be performed until competencies are signed off.
  • Learn about pharmacy services under the guidance, direction, control or supervision of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and other staff.
  • Engage in a 2 year comprehensive training and educational programme while working towards gaining the pharmacy technician qualification and registration with the GPhC on successful completion.
  • Maintain progress and meet learning agreement requirements signed by the trainee, the educational provider and the workplace.
  • Participate in rotations that provide training, experience and competency assessment in various aspects of hospital pharmacy under supervision of registered pharmacy technicians and pharmacists.
  • Work 37.5 hours per week on a rotational basis, including weekend and late duties; cover a bank holiday shift once per year and undertake rotations across Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust sites.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Dynamic, self-motivated, reliable, and able to work under pressure with good time management and communication skills.
  • Excellent IT skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel between trust sites.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK under the UKVI points-based system.
  • Preparation for pre-employment checks as part of the recruitment process (identity, right to work, DBS/CRB where applicable).
