The postholder will join the Renal Health and Counselling Psychology team and the Liver Transplant Psychology team, both comprising psychologists and young adult support workers, and will work closely with specialist kidney and liver multidisciplinary colleagues from nursing, medical, surgical, dietetic, pharmacy, and physiotherapy.

Person specification

Qualifications

  • Doctoral level training in clinical, counselling or health psychology and / or level 2 post-graduate qualification in CBT
  • Registration with Health and Care Professions Council (Practitioner Psychologist)
  • BABCP accreditation (full or provisional)

Experience

  • Experience of working as a qualified / trainee clinical / counselling psychologist / practitioner health psychologist and/or CBT therapist
  • Experience of specialist biopsychosocial assessment and delivery of psychological and / or motivational interventions with patients in primary care, community, or acute hospital settings
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of patient groups, presenting with a range of clinical severity across a range of care settings including outpatient and/or community and/or primary care, and/or in-patient settings and maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems
  • Experience of undertaking risk assessments
  • Experience of work within interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary environments
  • Experience of running patient support groups
  • Clinical experience in assessment and working psychologically with patients living with obesity in a community and/or acute hospital setting
  • Experience of running patient therapy/education/information groups
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement behaviour change techniques and interventions as applied to healthy eating and physical exercise
  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention, and management, including the use of theoretical models to analyse information and to develop formulations
  • Ability to communicate effectively at both a written and oral level to patients and professional persons within and outside the NHS
  • Ability to act as a practitioner psychologist / CBT therapist and work autonomously in hospital settings
  • High level knowledge of psychology research design and methodology within physical health settings
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development in line with HCPC/BPS/BABCP requirements
