The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) has proudly served Australians since 1928. We provide emergency aeromedical and allied health services to rural and remote communities and offer primary health care to Victorians. Patient Transport services offer non‑emergency patient transport primarily in Victoria and New South Wales, supporting our ambulance fleet with RFDS aircraft.
We are currently seeking Casual Ambulance Transport Attendants (ATAs) for surge shifts in Metropolitan Melbourne. As an ATA you will ensure safe, courteous transportation of patients, providing high‑quality care and support during transit. Structured training, induction and professional development are available, within an inclusive organisation.
Key Responsibilities- Perform patient assessment and intervention on‑road.
- Provide high‑quality patient care and treatment during on‑road transport.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with patients and stakeholders.
- Assess the effectiveness of interventions in accordance with RFDS guidelines, NEPT regulations and scope of practice.
- Perform independently and problem‑solve within established policies and procedures.
- Work collaboratively with other team members.
- Maintain an understanding of RFDS policies and NEPT regulations to support best practice and patient outcomes.
- Experience working in the NEPT sector in an equivalent role is desirable but not essential.
- Full driver’s licence, Working With Children Check, National Police Check, and right to work in Australia.
- Ability to drive in both city and country traffic conditions.
- Availability to pick up shifts across 7 days occasionally.
- Current ATA or Diploma of Paramedical Science (Ambulance), Bachelor of Health Science (Paramedic) or other equivalent qualification recognised by RFDS or DHHS.
- Evidence of successful completion of required clinical placements, a Clinical Skills Assessment, minimum of 400 hours operational stretcher experience under a clinical instructor, and successful completion of a clinical skills assessment (e.g. stage 8).
- Registered Nurses: AHPRA nursing registration and evidence of completed nursing graduate year or documented work history within a hospital setting (e.g. Emergency Department, Cardiac Unit, High Dependency Unit, Intensive Care, Theatre) or 400 clinically supervised hours within another registered ambulance service.
- Recognition of prior ATA service with other ambulance providers for fair compensation.
