As a Senior Engineer Chassis Engineering for Royal Enfield you will be part of the Global Technical Organisation and report to a Function Lead Engineer within Chassis Engineering.

The role will involve working from concept stage through to the start of production.

Working with the other Chassis functions and with Vehicle Integration as well as across multiple cross functional teams, you will be responsible for the specification, design and development of components, assemblies and systems that contribute to world class leading motorcycles.

Collaborating with both in-house manufacturing teams and external suppliers, you will own the design process, working flexibly with Industrial Design, Product Strategy and Sourcing teams, whilst ensuring conformity to regulatory requirements.

  • Design systems and components for new and updated chassis projects, considering function, cost, manufacturing, assembly and quality.
  • Produce excellent quality 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings using PTC Creo.
  • Release drawings for quotation, prototype, tooling and development complete through the Windchill PLM system.
  • Follow development and test procedures.
  • Develop and help maintain development and test procedures.
  • Produce supporting documentation for development status, considering tolerance stacks, bolted joints, calculations, tests and validation activities, as required.
  • Develop designs to meet durability requirements based on interpretation of CAE & physical test reports.
  • Liaise with internal departments such as, Product Strategy, Industrial Design, Product Development Test Team, Sourcing, Manufacturing, Quality and Assembly.
  • Develop designs based on DFM (design for manufacture) feedback from external suppliers.
  • Design components and systems to comply with regulatory requirements, RE design guidelines and RE internal test procedures where needed.
  • Support testing department with the testing of components and motorcycles.
  • Manage their own time and workload effectively.
  • Create and manage timing plans for their areas of responsibility.
  • Mentor new engineers and interns within the team.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide guidance to other team members where required.

Represent the development team in interdepartmental meetings in the absence of the team leader or lead engineer.

Education

  • Qualified to degree level in relevant discipline

Preferred

  • Degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in engineering design.
  • Experience in engineering design of structural components and systems.
  • Experience in 3D CAD design & good understanding of geometric tolerances on 2D drawings.

Experience in interpreting CAE reports and iterating part design to meet durability targets.

  • Literate in Google Suite / MS Office software
  • Good knowledge of failure analysis and problem-solving.
  • Understanding of motorcycle geometry, chassis layout, ergonomics and chassis construction.
  • Able to demonstrate good time management and excellent knowledge of engineering fundamentals.

Preferred

  • 3+ years relevant experience in a similar role
  • Experience working on motorcycle chassis component design.
  • Knowledge of designing for casting, forging and fabricated assemblies.
  • PTC Creo - surface, solid modelling and 2D detailing to an advanced level.
  • Understanding of PLM systems
  • Experience of working directly with suppliers on DFM feedback and issues.
  • Past experience in analysis and optimisation of components and subassemblies based on assembly and testing feedback
