The Royal Economic Society is working in partnership with the Economic and Social Research Council to deliver a national programme of doctoral training for PhD students in economics. Through residential schools, online masterclasses and expert workshops, the programme helps early-career economists build the skills, confidence and networks they need to progress in research and beyond.
We are seeking a Programme Officer to help coordinate and deliver this important programme during the academic year. Working closely with the Programme Director, the Head of Events and members of the Education and Training Committee, you will play a central role in ensuring the programme is well organised, professionally delivered and engaging for students, speakers and partner organisations.
You will support the planning, promotion and delivery of training sessions; assist with online delivery; and help manage the residential school, including the tender process, host selection and onsite arrangements.
Location: Our offices are based in Westminster, Central London and we currently have a hybrid model of working. Mondays are work from office days and Wednesday afternoon is the usual session delivery slot. Occasional travel to meetings within the UK may be required.
Job Type: 3 year fixed term β related to funded programme
- To plan the programme for the academic year working with the Programme Director and key members of the Education and Training Committee
- Invite and coordinate with speakers
- Promote the programme through Doctoral Training Centres, CHUDE and through other channels of the Royal Economic Society to maximise attendance
- Manage the registration process for each training
- Develop evaluation measures and report these regularly to the ESRC, the RES and the Programme Director
- Manage assigned budget for each activity and ensure payment of speakers/venue
- Provide technical support in advance of and during all online masterclasses and expert workshops
- Develop digital repository of online masterclasses and expert workshops, securing permissions from speakers
Requirements:
- At least 2 years' experience in coordinating in-person and online training or other programme support, preferably in an academic setting
- Strong organisational, administrative skills and significant experience of MS Office packages
- A commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion
- Ability to work well within a team, with a flexible can-do approach to work
- Knowledge of the Doctoral Training Programme and PhD pathways β preferably in economics
- Experience of coordinating in person events or outreach activities
- Experience of using CRM and CMS systems to communicate programme activities
