Clinical Scientist - Genomics (Internal Only) in Exeter

The Genomic Laboratory at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is at the forefront of NHS Genomic Medicine, providing state-of-the-art diagnostic testing that utilises specialist gene panel, exome and genome analyses to make diagnoses for the benefit of families with rare diseases across the UK and beyond. We have been shortlisted for the 2023 HSJ Acute Sector Innovation of the Year award for our Rapid genome sequencing service for acutely unwell babies and children, building on previous awards for this world-leading service.

The Exeter laboratory works in partnership with the Bristol Genomics Laboratory as the South West Genomic Laboratory Hub, focusing on specialist endocrine services, exome analysis and a rapid whole genome service. Collaboration and translation of research findings to diagnostic services is facilitated by sharing purpose-built accommodation with the University of Exeter Medical School Genomics teams.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Clinical Scientist to join the Exeter Genomics Laboratory. The successful candidate will work across three specialist services: our award-winning R14 rapid whole genome sequencing service for acutely unwell babies and children with a likely monogenic disorder, our internationally acclaimed Exeter monogenic diabetes and hyperinsulinism service with strong research links to the University of Exeter, and our rare disease service, which offers testing for a comprehensive range of endocrine disorders.

The post-holder will be expected to employ all the competencies required of a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Clinical Scientist to provide genomic testing for patients, continuously developing their clinical, scientific and technical practice to provide clinical liaison with a high level of scientific knowledge, skill and expertise. The responsibilities of the post will be discharged by working closely with other members of the scientific, technical and administration teams to ensure the provision of accurate, timely and high-quality genomic services for a range of rare and inherited clinical indications. The post-holder will have excellent communication skills to ensure effective team-working and training of clinical, scientific and technical grades of staff and students.

Working Pattern: 37.5 hours per week to include weekends.
