Main duties of the job

The Ward Clerk will have responsibility for administrative duties within the ward/unit. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring an optimum level of efficient clerical support to the nursing and medical staff in a timely and accurate manner. They will have contact with patients, carers and all members of the multi‑professional team and as such they will provide front‑of‑house services for the ward/unit. We are looking for a bright and friendly person to join our team of ward clerks on our 54 bedded Trauma Unit at the Royal Cornwall Hospital. Previous clerical experience in the health service would be desirable. You should be a calm, organised and well‑motivated person with a positive, mature and flexible approach to your work. The post involves contact with patients and their families, so good communication skills are vital.

Job responsibilities

  • Support the wards and the day‑case unit with clerical administration.
  • Provide reception service for patients and relatives.
  • Manage patients’ records.
  • Assist the ward with audits.
  • Maintain the relevant databases associated with the role.

Person Specification

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 GCSEs which must include English & Maths
  • RSA 1 or equivalent
Experience
  • Awareness of Data Protection Act
  • Computer literate
  • Experience as a Ward Clerk within the NHS
  • Knowledge of NHS administrative procedures
Practical skills
  • Motivated to deliver the highest possible standards and quality outcomes
