Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust are currently seeking an enthusiastic Trainee Advisor (Health) to join the busy Health & Safety Team on a full time 37.5 hours per week permanent contract. Do you want a job where you are helping people stay fit and healthy to complete essential work for our patients in Cornwall?

You will be responsible (under supervision) for advising on health matters mainly in relation to MSK and skin health, working in close liaison with the Occupational Health department and assisting with the development and implementation of a robust system of audits for monitoring the organisation on the specialisms covered by the team. The Trainee Advisor (Health) post is responsible to the Senior Health and Business Support Advisor and is a key post in the Health section of the wider Health & Safety team.

Main duties of the job:

  • The post holder will be required to assist on the development and implementation of Health & Safety Policies, in conjunction with key clinical staff and working groups.
  • Ensure there are robust management systems so the Trust remains compliant against all statutory and NHS requirements.
  • Provide proficient professional advice on a wide range of subjects as would be required of all Health and Safety Advisors/Trainees, specialising in MSK and skin health matters.
  • Support the Senior Health and Business Support Advisor with the provision of specialist health and safety advice and guidance.
  • Provision of face to face internal training.
  • Monitoring and measuring of internal performance to ensure progress against the Trust Health and Safety Strategy and achievement of Health and Safety objectives and targets as identified in the improvement plan.

Person Specification:

Qualifications:

  • NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent (for band 5) or willing to work towards (for band 4).
  • GCSE level 4 / grade c or above in English.
  • GCSE level 4 / grade c or above in Maths.
  • NEBOSH Health & Safety Diploma or equivalent.
  • Other Health and Safety Subject Specific Qualifications E.g. Incident Investigation, COSHH, DSE, Moving and Handling etc.
  • Teaching qualification or similar.

Experience:

  • Experience of using Microsoft packages including Word and Excel.
  • Working knowledge of the Trust's incident reporting system.
  • Previous experience of working in an office environment.
  • Able to examine and analyse situations to identify potential improvement actions.
  • Able to extract and use information from a variety of sources and formats.
  • Understanding of MSK, Sharps, Dermatitis, falls, etc.
  • Experience working within a health and safety field for a minimum of 12 months.
  • Experience working in a complex public facing organisation.
