Applicants will need to have a minimum of six months experience of working as a healthcare support worker in an acute healthcare setting or equivalent for this role. As a Healthcare Assistant you will be a valued member of the team and help support our nurses to look after patients. The role of a Healthcare Assistant is a very privileged role, within this role you will provide personal care and support to patients at their most vulnerable times. Main duties of the job
- The Kernowflex Healthcare Assistant works as part of the ward/department team under the supervision of registered nurses and midwives.
- To assist in the delivery of clinical care, planned and assessed by the Registered Nurses.
- To carry out care / other duties under indirect supervision of a Registered Nurse and/or Senior Health Care Assistant.
- Support care on a day-to-day basis for all patients in the clinical area in a manner sensitive to the individual patient needs and wishes, acknowledging their rights and beliefs at all times.
- Contribute to resource management within the clinical area.
All Healthcare Assistants are expected to complete the following activities and achieve the required level of competence within a timescale agreed with their manager and with reference to RCHT HCA Development Strategy:
- Attendance at the HCA Induction Programme.
- Attend the mandatory development study days.
- Participate in the annual HCA update.
- Complete the appropriate Qualifications & Credit Framework (QCF) training.
Key working relationships include all members of the multi-professional team, including nursing and medical staff, allied health professionals and support workers.

Qualifications
- GCSE Maths & English, or Equivalent.
- NVQ 2 in Health Care, or Equivalent.
- Clinical skills e.g. venepuncture, blood transfusion, aseptic non-touch technique.
- NVQ 3 in Direct Care.
Experience
- Six months experience of working as a healthcare support worker in an acute healthcare setting or equivalent.
- Working in a team.
- Able to demonstrate a good work ethic.
