This role has been approved for advertising; however, it is also being assessed as a suitable alternative employment opportunity. As a result, the vacancy may be withdrawn or there may be a delay before shortlisting can begin. This role is open to all applicants. However, in line with Cornwall First recruitment principles, initial shortlisting will prioritise applicants from Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust, Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, and the Integrated Care Board for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

To provide specialist pharmacy advice and training in the areas of HIV and antibiotic stewardship to consultant & junior medical staff, nursing staff, pharmacy staff, other healthcare professionals, and patients/carers. To assist in the provision of regular structured feedback to the HIV team regarding the safe and effective use of medicines and drug expenditure to facilitate service improvement.

Main duties of the job include:

  • Providing core clinical pharmacy service to HIV patients and inpatients receiving antibiotics in line with the Trusts clinical pharmacy standards.
  • Supporting the Acute Care at Home pharmacist ward rounds, when required, to identify patients for home IV antibiotic management via the Acute Care at Home service.
  • Leading antibiotic stewardship ward rounds to optimise inpatient antibiotic prescribing.
  • Ensuring through clinical screening that high quality prescribing is provided on all reviewed patients.
  • Ensuring that pharmaceutical knowledge and skills are applied through proper medication reconciliation on admission, optimisation during their admission.
