The predicted salary is between 72000 - 108000 £ per year.

Due to a successful investment request, the department is looking to expand its current team of 20 Paediatric consultants. We are interested in candidates with expertise in Respiratory medicine. The post will require the applicant to work on the General Paediatric rota. This expansion is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic team delivering excellent general and neonatal care in a beautiful area of the country. With our expanding team, our appetite for the continuing evolution of our services and the new Women and Children's hospital due within 5 years, this is an exciting time to join us.

The successful applicants will not only become part of our close-knit and forward-thinking multidisciplinary team but will also balance the great work life with all the unique benefits of the diverse, coastal lifestyle Cornwall has to offer. A formal job plan will be agreed between the successful candidate and the Clinical Director and consultant colleagues on behalf of the Medical Director based on the needs of the department and the strengths/interests of the individual appointed to ensure we have the flexibility to recruit the very best applicants.

Main duties of the job:

  • Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of general paediatric and neonatal patients.
  • To share with colleagues responsibility for the day-to-day management of the child health department.
  • Teaching and training of junior staff and medical students where applicable.
  • To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME).
  • To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and Audit.
  • To attend meetings as appropriate.
  • Fulfil duties of weekly timetable including any out-of-hours responsibilities.

Person Specification:

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
  • Relevant CCT (in General Paediatrics) or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of Advisory Appointments Committee (AAC))
  • MRCPCH accreditation

Desirable:

  • Higher degree or additional qualification (e.g. MD, MSc)

Experience:

Essential:

  • Clinical training and experience in paediatrics equivalent to that required for UK CCT
  • Able to practice independently at the level expected of a consultant in paediatrics.

Desirable:

  • Applicable SPIN modules depending on the interest.
