Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Geriatrician on behalf of the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust, Cornwall. Cornwall Older People’s Services and Frailty Pathway are undergoing rapid transformation with significant investment. We seek enthusiastic and dynamic individuals interested in expanding Older People’s Services, Parkinson’s Disease Service, and Frailty care in Cornwall.
Inpatient care for Parkinson’s Disease is provided by Eldercare consultants, supported by 2 Acute PD specialist nurses and a Specialist Pharmacist. Outpatient care is delivered in community hospital clinics, supported by a Countywide MDT (including Nurse Consultants, x 4 Community PD Nurse Specialists, a Specialist Physiotherapist, and others, funded by Cornwall Foundation Trust). The countywide team regularly meets to discuss clinical and service issues. There are strong links with the Research and Development team, with ongoing studies in PD. The team actively participates in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Tertiary care is mainly provided by North Bristol NHS Trust, with whom we maintain close links. There are 2 active local branches of Parkinson’s UK, providing considerable support to patients, with whom we have strong collaborative relationships.
Main duties of the job
We offer roles in general geriatrics with interests in orthogeriatrics, dementia, Parkinson’s/movement disorders, community geriatrics, stroke, or a combination. There is potential to develop specific areas of interest through innovation and service improvement, such as surgical liaison. We welcome applications from both experienced and newly trained Consultants, with options for flexible working. For new consultants, the job plan includes 2.5 SPAs for the first year.
The Eldercare team is committed to providing a first-class service, prioritizing patients and their families. The team emphasizes proactive teaching, innovation, and collaboration with community and primary care partners—offering an opportunity to lead pioneering approaches in elder care. The posts are supported by a large, friendly, progressive Older People’s Service that is forward-thinking, passionate, and caring. The consultant team works alongside nurses, allied health professionals, community partners, and old age psychiatrists to deliver multidisciplinary care to our community.
