Position Summary:
The Senior Marine Industry Recruiter (Senior Recruiter) is a strategic talent acquisition professional responsible for driving end-to-end recruitment processes for shipboard Marine positions, including specialized, hard-to-fill, and leadership roles. This position plays a critical role in identifying, attracting, and hiring the best global talent to support marine operations, ensuring alignment with company standards and operational excellence. The Senior Recruiter provides expertise on global labor markets, pipeline optimization, and sourcing strategies while partnering closely with leadership to meet shipboard staffing needs effectively and sustainably.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Strategic Recruitment Leadership:
Own and drive the full-cycle recruitment process for assigned shipboard roles, including senior-level, technical, and niche positions. Collaborate with hiring managers, HRBPs, and operational leaders to determine position requirements, ensuring clarity on competencies and qualifications. Deliver data-driven insights to leadership, advising on global labor market conditions, talent pipeline health, and sourcing campaign effectiveness. Develop and execute proactive talent strategies to support current and future operational needs. - Talent Sourcing & Identification:
Lead sourcing initiatives using multiple channels, including passive candidate strategies, Boolean searches, professional networks, talent mapping, and direct outreach. Build and maintain strategic talent pipelines for specialized marine roles and continuously engage with top talent in the industry. Optimize sourcing campaigns for high-volume hiring, difficult-to-fill roles, and specialized marine certifications. Conduct competency-based interviews and in-depth assessments to ensure candidate suitability for shipboard roles. Present a shortlist of highly qualified candidates to hiring leaders, emphasizing technical competencies, leadership potential, and shipboard readiness. Assess cultural alignment and candidate adaptability to the shipboard environment. Make hiring recommendations and, when authorized, extend offers for entry-level roles. - Stakeholder Collaboration & Management:
Serve as a trusted talent advisor to hiring leaders, providing ongoing consultation on talent market trends, selection strategies, and recruitment timelines. Facilitate regular calibration meetings with hiring managers to review selection criteria and adjust recruitment strategies as needed. Manage recruitment process milestones, escalating challenges proactively while maintaining hiring momentum. - Strategic Recruitment & Process Optimization:
Master complex job requirements to identify, attract, and secure top-tier talent across all areas within Marine, including deck and engine officers, technical specialists, skilled trade professionals, and other shipboard roles that require rigorous licensing and certifications such as STCW, SOLAS, and MLC. Operate in a dynamic, high-volume recruitment environment, managing 200-400 hires per month, with each recruiter responsible for a book of business ranging from 20-60 hires. Provide strategic insights into talent market trends, collaborate in the creation and refinement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and contribute to the development of processes and reports that measure productivity and effectiveness. Work closely with hiring managers, HR, and operational leaders to ensure seamless crew deployment while continuously improving efficiency and compliance in a fast-paced, deadline-driven setting. - Operational Excellence & Compliance:
Ensure all recruitment activities align with international maritime labor regulations, including MLC and SQM policies. Maintain thorough documentation of recruitment activities, adhering to company policies and data protection regulations. Regularly review and refine interview frameworks, candidate assessments, and evaluation tools for continued relevance and effectiveness. - Employer Branding & Candidate Experience:
Champion a world-class candidate experience, providing timely updates and feedback throughout the recruitment process. Serve as an ambassador for the brand, articulating the company’s values, career growth opportunities, and shipboard culture effectively. Participate in recruitment events, trade shows, and global hiring initiatives to strengthen the company’s visibility and employer brand. Utilize recruitment data, reports, and dashboards to monitor hiring metrics, process efficiency, and candidate pipeline health. Recommend and implement improvements to recruitment processes, technology adoption, and global talent strategies. Conduct recruiter training sessions and workshops to ensure alignment with best practices and talent acquisition excellence.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources and/or business administration from an accredited college or university or the international equivalent preferred.
- Minimum 5 years relevant recruitment experience, within the marine or cruise industries preferred.
- Knowledge of Marine positions, career progression, the training certifications and licenses required for each level and per position preferred.
- Knowledge of SQM policy and MLC legislation highly recommended.
- Knowledge of general cruise ship operations preferred.
- Demonstrated capability to recruit positions in various levels of the organization (entry to management level) required.
- Proven ability to conduct competency-based interviewing.
- Strong interviewing skills; ability to understand and further the organization\’s business objectives and employee performance objectives.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to analyze large datasets and report relevant findings.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and requisitions simultaneously.
- Strong project management and time management skills required.
- Ability to work productively under tight time constraints with competing priorities.
- Ability to deal appropriately with confidential information.
- Fluency to read, write, and speak in English.
- Working knowledge of accepted human resources recruitment practices.
- Exceptional attention to detail required.
- Knowledge of world geography, time differences, and demographics.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Proficiency with ATS, CRMs preferred and Smartsheets a plus.
