Ship Manager, Marine Ops

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are looking for 3 x Ship Managers to join our Marine Operations team in Weybridge office UK.

The Manager, Marine Operations (Ship Manager) position drives an ongoing and productive relationship between the shoreside Marine Operations organization and the senior Marine Management team onboard their assigned vessels. The Manager, Marine Operations is responsible for the safe, compliant and efficient operation of their assigned vessels and has major responsibilities to encourage innovative means of meeting and exceeding the company\’s stated goals and objectives. This position is result-driven, thinks strategically, keeps the \’big picture\’ in mind and interacts frequently on an interdepartmental basis, both shipboard and shoreside. A successful Manager, Marine Operations will not only have exceeded their individual goals but will also have actively supported a group of vessels that have consistently surpassed their assigned targets.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Responsible for overall day-to-day operational management of assigned vessels to effectively and efficiently ensure they are operated and maintained in a safe, compliant and reliable manner.
  2. Drive an active and ongoing dialogue with both the shipboard and shoreside support teams regarding their operational needs and initiatives so that they are clearly understood, prioritized and supported to ensure timely implementation.
  3. Maintain an awareness of the overall corporate and departmental goals, key performance indicators and financial plans while encouraging a culture of effecting innovative means to meet and exceed goals.
  4. Encourage the use of new and progressive means to carry out onboard repairs and maintenance, while ensuring all reporting and documentation requirements are fully met.
  5. Maintain frequent communications with other shoreside departments and the Global Marine Technical organization to assist in the selection and installation of machinery and equipment.
  6. Monitor vessel compliance with Flag / Class / Government Authority requirements and take necessary actions to ensure timely and complete clearance of Conditions of Class / Conditions of Authority / Audit Findings.
  7. Follow up with the onboard teams and other departments/vendors to ensure all incidents and damages are fully investigated and reported.
  8. Participate in succession planning, training, evaluation and development for all relevant shipboard personnel.
  9. Cooperate with the Facilities department on operational issues and projects impacting the Hotel and Marine areas of responsibility.
  10. Cooperate with the NewBuilding department to develop new ship designs with the proper feedback from the Operational perspective.
  11. Assist and support the DPA whenever necessary and communicate operational issues as they arise.
  12. Perform other duties as required.

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Encourage the onboard and shoreside support teams to investigate all suitable means to achieve cost savings while maintaining quality.
  2. Participate in the preparation of annual operational, bunker and capital budgets for each assigned vessel.
  3. Evaluate monthly and quarterly operation/financial results and recommend adjustments to plans/forecasts.
  4. Develop, manage, and successfully execute a financial plan for any assigned dry dock or special project.
  5. Manage the guarantee process with New Build/Yard through to completion for any assigned vessels.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelors degree in Engineering or related field from an accredited college, university or the international equivalent, preferred. Relevant experience as Naval Architect or Marine/Mechanical Engineer and/or experience with a shipping company, classification society or similar. Chief Engineers license and sailing experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Must be well versed in all areas of maritime operations, with specific familiarity of various onboard systems (HVAC, Electrical, Mechanical, Engine, Powerplant, etc.) and have the ability to read and understand technical drawings. Must be able to maintain a close working relationship with representatives from the various classification societies and governing agencies regulating our ships fleet-wide.

Must have the ability to work efficiently and successfully in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and priorities. The proven ability to manage all financial aspects of daily operations and additional assigned projects, including the successful identification of expense reductions through cost efficiencies, is required.

Must have strong supervisory skills and must possess the ability to communicate at the highest level of the organization. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate in a multicultural environment with all levels of employees and management are essential.
