The Head of Risk Management & Insurance is a senior leadership role with significant influence across the organisation, reporting directly to the Chief Finance Officer and working closely with the Executive Board, Board of Trustees and Audit & Risk Committee. You will take ownership of the organisation’s approach to risk, insurance and business continuity, providing the expertise, assurance and constructive challenge needed to support confident decision-making at the highest level. This is a role for someone who wants to be close to the decisions that shape an organisation, with the credibility and experience to advise senior leaders, challenge where necessary and ensure risk remains firmly on the agenda.

Come and be part of the leading Armed Forces charity, making a difference to the lives of those who have served to keep us safe and protect our way of life.

You will lead a broad and varied portfolio, overseeing the risk management framework, risk appetite, organisational risk reporting and the way risk ownership is embedded across directorates. Alongside this, you will lead the insurance strategy and annual renewal process, manage relationships with brokers and insurers, oversee claims and ensure the insurance portfolio continues to provide the right level of protection. You will also have responsibility for business continuity and crisis management, including testing arrangements, Business Impact Analyses and the Serious Incident Response Framework. Working closely with senior leaders across the organisation, you will bring together strategic oversight with a practical understanding of the risks, controls and actions that need to be managed day to day.

We are looking for an experienced risk and insurance professional who is comfortable operating at a senior level and understands how to make risk management work in a complex organisation. You will bring substantial experience across both risk and insurance, including insurance renewals and senior stakeholder engagement, with the confidence to present to Trustees and Executive colleagues and translate complex issues into clear, useful advice. A professional qualification such as CII or IRM, or equivalent experience, would be expected. You will be commercially minded, pragmatic and credible, with the judgement to know when to advise, when to challenge and when to take action. Reporting to the Chief Finance Officer and leading a specialist function, this is a genuine opportunity to shape the organisation’s approach to risk and resilience at a senior level.

You will be contracted to our Haig House hub with a minimum expectation of two days per week working in person at the hub and flexibility for working remotely/at home when not on site

Employee benefits include -

  • 28 day’s paid holiday (plus bank holidays) increasing with service, with optional annual leave purchase scheme of up to 5 working days

  • Generous pension scheme with employer contributions ranging from 6% to 14%, depending on length of service
  • Range of flexible working options may be available, depending on your role
