Kingston is located in zone 6 with good transport links in and out of London. Kingston is a vibrant and diverse university town which creates the rich sense of community shared across the borough and its residents. Kingston boasts an idyllic riverside location, good shopping and great restaurants, as well as a mix of modern and historic town centre. Kingston has lots of open parklands and cycle routes that help connect the district town centres into an enjoyable place to live and work.

This community-focused role is responsible for leading strategic arts and cultural relationships, partnerships and commissioning, the development and promotion of cultural events and delivering innovative place-based programmes and strong outcomes for residents and partners. You will also play an important role in developing and delivering a new cultural strategy for the borough.

In this role you will need to:

  • Lead arts and cultural partnerships and projects, delivering innovative place-based programmes and strong outcomes for residents and partners
  • Lead the development and promotion of the programme of events across the Culture and Heritage Service and in close collaboration with community partners
  • Champion the contribution of cultural placemaking to a thriving borough in collaboration with external partners and council colleagues
  • Lead and manage funding agreements with external funders and manage contracts with commissioned local organisations
  • Lead and manage a small team and external contractors as required
  • Work as part of a close-knit Culture and Heritage senior team to deliver a coherent, joined up outreach and engagement offer to residents and lead relevant cross-departmental projects

The Culture and Heritage team, part of the Residents and Communities Directorate, are a passionate multi-disciplinary team, working across arts and culture partnerships, heritage, libraries, music education and adult education. You will be part of a highly motivated Culture and Heritage senior management team who are ambitious to deliver high quality and transformational cultural services to our communities.
