Champion the education of children in care, helping them build brighter futures.

As a Virtual School Advisory Teacher, you\’ll be using your teaching experience to make a lasting difference. You\’ll work directly with children in care, alongside schools, carers and social workers, to make sure each young person gets the support they need to thrive in education – wherever they\’re placed.

Working Style:

This is a full-time, Bi-Borough role focused on making a meaningful difference in the lives of care-experienced young people. Whether working directly with young people or providing essential support behind the scenes, you will be part of a dedicated and passionate team. This is a hybrid position, with an expectation to be in a public-facing role three days per week.

What you\’ll be doing:

You\’ll take responsibility for a group of children in care, acting as their advocate in all things education. Your role is to make sure they have every chance to succeed – that includes reviewing Personal Education Plans (PEPs), monitoring progress, and making sure pupil premium funding is used in a way that makes a real difference.

You\’ll travel to meet young people wherever they are placed, providing direct support through mentoring, tuition and observation. You\’ll build close working relationships with Designated Teachers and school leaders, offering guidance, challenging practice where needed, and always keeping the child\’s needs at the centre.

You\’ll track data carefully to spot where extra support is needed, and help design interventions that work. You\’ll also play a role in training school staff, foster carers and social workers – helping everyone involved understand what young people in care need to feel safe, supported and able to learn.

For further details, please review the Job Description and Person Specification

What you\’ll bring

You\’re a qualified teacher with experience in mainstream education, covering at least two key stages. You\’ll also bring a strong understanding of the legislation around children in care and how it impacts their education.

You\’ll be confident working with a wide range of people – from young people and carers to school staff and social workers – and able to build trust quickly. You\’ll be organised, responsive, and able to manage your time well, even with a busy and varied caseload.

Above all, you\’ll care deeply about helping children in care succeed – not just academically, but in finding stability, confidence and a belief in their own potential.

Why join us

At RBKC, we\’re all in – investing in our people, our communities and our future.

Our Virtual School is rated Outstanding by Ofsted, and we\’re proud of the collaborative culture we\’ve built. You\’ll be part of a team that shares ideas, supports one another, and never loses sight of the children we\’re here to help.

You\’ll be offered a competitive salary, access to a wide range of training, and real opportunities to grow your career within a high-performing and respected service. Most importantly, this is a role where you\’ll see the impact of your work – in the progress of the young people you support, and the trust they place in you.
