Working Style

Based in the borough three days a week, with up to two days working from home, you will join a dedicated team of five officers aimed at delivering a challenging work programme each year. Your workload will include planning new pedestrian crossings and improvements to cycleways, as well as supporting schools in promoting sustainable travel. This is a three‑year programme.

What You’ll Be Doing

You will secure your project management qualification and gain in‑depth knowledge of how we improve road safety and make our streets safer and greener. You will provide project, policy and change management support, working on programmes covering traffic congestion, road collisions, school parking challenges and new pedestrian crossings. You will research, manage and monitor progress of workstreams, help the team develop innovative solutions, shadow and be coached by colleagues, and undertake tasks such as reporting on public consultations, monitoring expenditure, analysing survey data, drawing simple plans and drafting street notices. Around 20% of your time will be devoted to learning—attending workshops and webinars, taking online activities—while the rest of the apprenticeship involves hands‑on projects. By the end you will have secured a Level 4 Associate Project Manager apprenticeship qualification and an IPMA Level D or APM Project Management Qualification.

What You’ll Bring

You will be a self‑starter ready to hit the ground running, able to work flexibly across initiatives, comfortable extracting and analysing data, and with some knowledge of budgeting, financial management and cost control. You have GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths, good IT skills—including Microsoft Office and data analysis software—and strong verbal and written communication skills. You are reliable, meet deadlines, stay calm under pressure, pay attention to detail and share our determination to create a greener, safer and fairer transport network.
