Help protect residents and shape better standards across our borough. As a Fire Safety Surveyor, you\’ll use your technical expertise to help make homes across our borough safer. Whether you\’re assessing fire risk, advising on complex compliance issues or guiding improvements, your work will directly protect residents and support long-term building safety. Working Style: You\’ll be based in the Borough for 3 days a week, playing a key role in serving the local community. Whether you\’re working on the frontline or behind the scenes, you\’ll be part of a dedicated team making a real difference to residents\’ lives. What you\’ll be doing: As a Fire Safety Surveyor, you\’ll take the lead on fire risk assessments and quality assurance across a wide range of residential properties – from temporary accommodation to supported housing. You\’ll spend time on site surveying homes, designing fire safety schemes and overseeing remedial works to make sure our buildings meet both legal requirements and our own high standards. This is a technical, collaborative role. You\’ll work closely with contractors, internal teams and partners like Building Control and the Fire Service. You\’ll prepare clear, comprehensive reports, validate assessments and contribute to training and policy work. You\’ll also help implement a Fire Safety Management Plan that brings consistency and clarity to how fire safety is handled across our housing stock – including major schemes and properties with more complex needs. Your work will touch every stage of a fire safety project – from detailed design and compliance checks to supporting community engagement. That might mean balancing a tight budget with safety imperatives, or making sure contractors and colleagues stay up to speed with changing legislation. For further details, please review the Job Description and Person Specification What you\’ll bring You\’ll hold a CFPA (Europe) Diploma (Technical) or equivalent, with membership of a recognised body such as RICS, RIBA, IFE, IFSM or IOSH. You\’ve got a strong understanding of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and experience applying it in real-world contexts, including complex risk assessments and housing projects. What matters just as much is your ability to work with others – whether that\’s translating technical guidance into plain language for a team, or advising a resident with specific concerns. You\’ll be confident leading on design, inspections and planning. And you\’ll bring sound judgment, attention to detail and a clear, calm approach to your day-to-day work.
