Help us shape a greener, safer and fairer borough. At the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, we're proud of our neighbourhoods - and we're always looking for ways to make them even better. As our new Environmental Services Manager, you'll play a vital role in protecting and enhancing our local environment, helping to create cleaner, safer spaces that residents can truly enjoy. This is a hands-on role where your leadership and ideas will make a visible difference.
Working Style: You'll be based in the Borough for four days a week, playing a key role in serving the local community. Whether you're working on the frontline or behind the scenes, you'll be part of a dedicated team making a real difference to residents' lives.
What you'll be doing: You'll be responsible for managing our contracted grounds maintenance and tree services, making sure they meet the highest standards across all estates and play areas. Leading a team of project managers, you'll oversee a range of environmental improvement projects - from initial concept through to delivery - with a focus on community engagement at every stage. You'll manage our Estate Improvement budget strategically, while also identifying and securing additional funding for new initiatives. These could include green energy projects, improved lighting, CCTV, landscaping, playground upgrades or better storage facilities for bikes. You'll also take the lead in planning for the security of blocks during the Notting Hill Carnival, ensuring the safety and well-being of all involved.
What you'll bring: We're looking for someone with strong experience in both project and contract management and a proven track record of working effectively with residents. You'll need to be comfortable holding contractors to account, delivering work to tight deadlines and ensuring every pound spent delivers real value. Excellent communication skills are key, along with a good understanding of health and safety and knowledge of horticulture or arboriculture. While not essential, a qualification in a relevant field to HND level or higher would be beneficial. Above all, you'll be proactive, resilient and able to navigate a fast-paced political environment where priorities can shift - all while keeping your focus on delivering practical, lasting improvements.
Why join us: At RBKC, you'll find a supportive, forward-thinking team that takes real pride in its work. We value collaboration and innovation, and we're committed to creating an environment where every team member can thrive. You'll be joining a respected and experienced group of professionals, united by a shared commitment to making our borough a better place for all who live here. This is a role where you'll see the direct impact of your work. With access to significant funding and a wide range of projects, you'll have the chance to help shape the future of our estates and public spaces - and to grow your own career in the process. We're committed to your professional development and will support you to reach your full potential.
