As a Trading Standards Officer at the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, you will protect consumers, ensure fair business practices, safeguard vulnerable residents and support businesses.
Working Style
You will be based in the Borough 3 days a week, serving the local community. You will deliver the full range of Trading Standards duties:
- Investigating complaints
- Conducting inspections
- Offering specialist advice
- Gathering evidence
- Carrying out test purchases
- Preparing reports
- Presenting evidence in court or at hearings
- Coordinating education and prevention initiatives
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate complaints and conduct inspections.
- Provide guidance to local enterprises and authorities on consumer protection law.
- Gather evidence, carry out test purchases, prepare reports and present evidence in court or hearings.
- Collaborate with partner agencies such as police, HMRC, safeguarding and adult social care.
- Intervene in scams or financial abuse cases to protect vulnerable residents.
- Deliver awareness campaigns, coordinate projects and measure their success.
Qualifications
- Diploma in Trading Standards (DTS), Diploma in Consumer Affairs and Trading Standards (DCATS), or equivalent qualification.
- Proven experience in Trading Standards or a similar enforcement field.
- In-depth knowledge of legislation including PACE, CPIA, RIPA, CPRs and BPRs.
- Strong communication, organisational and multitasking skills.
- Curiosity, adaptability and commitment to continuous learning.

Interviews will be held in person week commencing 6th July 2026 at Kensington Town Hall.
Additional Information
Enhanced DBS check (Adult and Child) including barred lists required. Pay: starting at the minimum of the pay scale; higher salary may be negotiated for exceptional skills. Annual salary increments until the top of the pay scale and agreed cost of living pay awards.
