About Us
Our Greenwich Plan sets out our vision for the next few years focusing on the changes we collectively want to see in our borough and Council. We want to become a more strategic, efficient and adaptive organisation, in order to deliver for our communities. Our workforce is key to making this happen.
Royal Greenwich is a borough synonymous with first class modern services. Our vibrant, diverse communities span Greenwich town centre in the west, to Thamesmead in the east, from the Greenwich Peninsula in the north to Eltham in the south. Royal Greenwich has a reputation for combining ambition with delivery. We are on a journey towards a low carbon future and the sustainability agenda will influence all areas of the Council’s work.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a junior role in shaping the Council’s ambitions for our future transport network, defining and prioritising both small and high-profile schemes and programmes.
To be successful in this post you will have some knowledge of transport strategy and have an understanding of how transport policies and schemes are identified and developed. You will need to bring energy, tenacity and strong communication skills, and a willingness to learn and develop your technical knowledge. You will thrive on data and evaluation to evidence and inform delivery and service improvements.
Above all, you’ll be committed to delivering an efficient, well-connected network that our residents love – with a carbon footprint that we can be proud of, as well as delivering the council’s Transport Strategy.
About The Role
This Transport Planner role will provide support for the delivery of an efficient and effective strategic and Transportation specific advisory and evaluation service for the Borough. You will also be able to contribute to other transport issues on a borough wide basis and at a sub-regional and regional level as appropriate.
You will work closely with officers in the Highways, Parking and Transportation Service, which may include working on joint projects and/or matrix management approaches.
The post holder will report to the Transport Planning Manager as well as other strategic members of the division.
The postholder will assist in defining and prioritising transport schemes and programmes which the Council would wish to progress, helping to take these to a sufficient level of development to hand over to the delivery teams for design and implementation. This may include helping to co-ordinate the development of programme and project funding strategies including the identification, submission and securing of grant and other (match) funding. You will also support in setting transport policies and identifying transport schemes in line with the various plans which sit within the Transport Strategy and associated Action Plans. This will likely include assisting with programme setting / bidding for Local Implementation Plan funding, as well as some involvement with strategic coordination with other transport operators, most notably Transport for London and neighbouring boroughs. You will further develop your knowledge and skills of projects and programmes within the area of Transport Planning, helping to develop and implement aspects of the transportation strategy and related policies as required.
About You
We’re looking for a candidate with transport planning technical knowledge and a willingness to learn, who is a team player with energy and a strong commitment to probity, honesty and openness, treating people consistently, fairly and with respect.
You must be able to understand issues relating to local government governance and processes, and be a strategic thinker with the ability to create and deliver innovative solutions.
